Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron
FEL-Research
DESY is world-wide one of the leading accelerator centres exploring the structure of matter. The main research areas range from elementary particle physics over various applications of synchrotron radiation to the construction and use of X-ray lasers.
The Free-Electron-Laser FLASH at DESY provides unique opportunities for research using shortwavelength radiation. For soft X-ray pump-probe experiments we are seeking to recruit a Postdoc (Ph.D.) #99/2006 for experiments investigating dense plasma states created by an intense optical fs-laser in twocolour pump-probe experiments. An upgrade of the existing OPCPA fs-laser system is planned to achieve even higher intensities for the optical laser. You will perform pump-probe experiments within an international collaboration and will lead the laser upgrade.
Young scientists who have completed their Ph.D. are invited to submit their application including a resume and the usual documents (curriculum vitae, list of publications and copies of university degree). Candidates should have a solid background in ultrashort pulsed laser physics and/or plasma physics. Ability to work in a team and experience in the coordination of small projects are advantageous. If you are interested in this position you may contact T.Tschentscher (thomas.tschentscher@desy.de) or S. Düsterer (stefan.duesterer@desy.de) for further information. Please send your application papers to our personnel department.
The position is limited to 2 years with the possibility to extend by 1 year.
Salary and benefits are commensurate with public service organisations. DESY is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and encourages applications from women. DESY has a Kindergarten on site.
Closing date: October 31, 2006
