Michael Schumacher has recorded his 90th career Grand Prix win this afternoon at Monza, taking the lead from Pole-sitter Kimi Raikkonen in the first round of pit stop and controlling the race from that point onwards. With Fernando Alonso working his way up to third position only to suffer an engine failure on lap 44, Schumacher has slashed Alonso’s advantage from ten points to just two.

Seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher of Germany will retire at the end of the current season, his Ferrari team announced after his victory at Monza here Sunday.

Schumacher kept in contention for an eighth world drivers' title by closing the gap to Spain's Fernando Alonso to two points in what was his 90th career victory in Formula One. There are three Grands Prix still left in the current season - in China on October 1, Japan on October 8 and Brazil on October 22. Schumacher is expected to compete in his last race in Brazil.

The German will now prepare to bring the curtain down on 15 years of almost unrivalled domination of the sport. To his millions of fans worldwide, it is perhaps fitting then that Schumacher's Ferrari team made the announcement at Monza, the scene of many famous moments in his story. Sunday's achievement was his fifth win at the famed Italian circuit. The German's final season has been one which has seen a resurgence in his driving, and after Alonso's domination last year it appears that, as Schumacher has predicted, the title will go right down to the wire.

I'm always up for a good parade. Was amazing, It was a perfect time to end his career. Schumaher is claimed to be the most talented driver in the world. He IS an extremely good driver.Bravo
Ferrari is built around Schumacher - He brought Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne with him from Benetton. When at Benetton, when Johnny Herbert was his team mate, all was fine until Herbert started to match Schumachers pace. From that point Herbert was refused access to Schumachers data, although not the other way round. As for outright pace - F1 has a lot of very very talented drivers in it at the moment - JPM, Jensen Button (languishing in a terrible Benetton with a worse Renault engine - its had to be detuned so much that its about 40 bhp down on the mechachrome), Kimi Raikkonen, Panis, not forgetting Hakk and DC, but good as they are, and whether you like him or not, Schumacher is still in a league of his own.He has an ability to drive the car at 10/10ths for longer than anyone else, and can shave time off laps where others can't. And he can do it in a car that isn't the fastest or best handling. Hats off!!
Looks like no one can win Schumi. he is so unpredictable. Many drivers must be happy today haha.
Congratulations to him. He will always be the one and only best driver.
Wow great news.
